Eye Care Mission: First Day

Vosh 2014 Samaipata, Bolivia Sun, Feb 9, 2014

(post delayed due to lack of internet service while on mission)
LONG couple of days. We left Chicago at 11:00 Saturday. Chicago to Miami to Santa Cruz. Hellacious trip through customs. Then bus ride to Samaipata. We got here after 4:00 pm on Sunday. Then we had to go to the really super small clinic and get it set up. Dinner and a couple of pisco sours and we are ready for bed at 9:00.
Breakfast tomorrow at 6:45. Then off to the clinic for last minute tweaking. Start seeing patients at 8:00.

New for this mission . . .
We have a general MD with us to treat high blood pressure and diabetes etc. Also a surgeon who is able to do 15 cataract surgeries a day. We are also trying for the first time fabricating custom glasses on site. The process involves a band saw to get the lenses to the approximate size and then a hand edger to finish. New is exciting. And stressful. Time for bed.

PS my first time sleeping under a mosquito net.
